our story…

My mother, Ruth, wanted to bring the luxury and sophistication of her beloved Europe to people in America who were seeking something more than the temporary, throw-away home decor found in chain stores. In 1964 she started Corona Decor in the eating nook of a small home in the Central district of Seattle. She had six children, a manual typewriter and a passion for fine, European woven textiles made into beautiful tapestries and home accessories. My mother worked tirelessly from early morning to late night tending to her growing tapestry business, her six active children and attending the University of Washington, proudly representing one of the very few women at the time in the Business School graduating class. As Ruth persisted at the business she employed highly skilled local tailors, seamstresses and craftspeople to create tapestries, pillows and other products that met her demanding expectations for quality.

As you do with good things, our family has retained my mother’s tradition for fine European quality and integrity in all we do, yet we’ve modernized our tapestries and processes for today’s business environment. Now, ShopTapestries.com delivers Ruth’s original vision for enduring quality and design through the magical power and reach of the internet. Each piece we offer here at ShopTapestries.com has been given the stamp of approval by my mother, even though she is now thoroughly enjoying her well-earned retirement.

I’m proud to continue the tradition that’s been in our family for 55 years.
